What does professional CCTV installation include?
Security camera installation is more than fixing a device to a wall. The mounting point, height, direction, cable route, PoE power and NVR location all affect reliability and image quality. We verify each planned view against its purpose, such as an entrance, driveway, car park, reception area, warehouse aisle or loading gate.
Before work begins, we confirm the agreed locations and identify any practical constraints. Where suitable infrastructure already exists, we assess whether it can be reused. For new systems, we plan cable routes and leave capacity for reasonable expansion.
Indoor and outdoor security cameras
Outdoor cameras need suitable housings, protected cable entries and positions that reduce glare, reflections and obstruction by vegetation. Indoor cameras should cover the required area without recording unnecessary private spaces. We select the housing, lens and mounting method for the actual scene rather than using one camera model everywhere.
For home CCTV systems, common locations include the gate, driveway, front door, garage and side access. Business CCTV systems often include entrances, reception, car parks, shared spaces, delivery zones and areas where operational events need to be documented.
PoE cabling and network preparation
In a wired IP system, PoE can provide network connectivity and power over one cable. This usually gives more predictable performance than connecting every camera through Wi-Fi. We check cable length, switch capacity, surge exposure and the location of network equipment.
Camera traffic and remote access should be configured deliberately. Depending on the site, this may include a dedicated PoE switch, network separation, restricted user accounts and an NVR placed in a less obvious, controlled location.
Image testing after installation
After mounting, we adjust the view and test more than the daytime picture. Backlight from windows, vehicle headlights, external lighting and reflections can change the result after dark. We review exposure, focus, motion areas and the practical level of detail in the recording.
We also verify that the time is correct, recordings are actually written to disk and footage can be found and exported. A system is not considered ready simply because every camera appears online.
NVR, mobile app and user accounts
We configure recording schedules, storage, user permissions and remote viewing. Owners, household members or employees can receive separate accounts instead of sharing one administrator password. We show authorised users how to open live view, find an event and save a required fragment.
Remote access is configured with security in mind. Administrative access is limited and credentials should be changed when staff or authorised users change.
Handover, warranty and later maintenance
At handover we explain the basic operation of the system and confirm which elements are covered by the equipment and installation warranty stated in the quotation. Later CCTV maintenance may include recording checks, disk diagnostics, firmware updates, password changes, image correction and additional cameras.
