What should a home CCTV system cover?
The design should start with the actual purpose of the system. A camera identifying visitors at the gate requires a different view than a wide camera covering a driveway. Typical locations include the main entrance, gate, garage, terrace and side passages around the building.
More cameras do not automatically mean better security. A smaller number of correctly positioned devices often provides more useful recordings than many wide, poorly planned views.
Camera and recording selection
We consider the viewing distance, lighting, night conditions, weather protection and available cabling. Where possible, a wired PoE installation provides stable data and power through one network cable. We base installations on proven Hikvision and BCS solutions selected for the property and budget.
The NVR and storage are sized according to the number of cameras, image quality, recording mode and required retention time. We use storage intended for continuous video recording.
Secure access from phones and computers
After installation we configure user accounts, remote access and basic recording search. Household members do not need to share an administrator password. We explain how to view cameras, find an event and export a selected recording.
The recorder should be installed in a controlled location. Strong passwords, current firmware and limited administrative access are important parts of a reliable system.
Installation and support
We start with a description, photographs or a plan of the property. If needed, we arrange a site visit. We then propose camera positions, recording capacity and remote access. After installation we test the views and explain daily operation. Later support may include password changes, disk replacement, troubleshooting or system expansion.
